Atlanta Falcons Gift Super Bowl to New England Patriots

Fun 3 Quarters Ends With Heartbreaking 4th Quarter

Falcons “Rise Up” First Half – Only to be “Deflated” by Patriots in Second

By In Blog, News On February 7, 2017

For only the second time in history, the Atlanta Falcons made it to the Super Bowl. What happened was history was made………..in a bad way for the Falcons. I was there. It hurt. In the first overtime Super Bowl game ever, the Atlanta Falcons gave up the biggest lead to ever be given up. The New England Patriots won……yet again.

The first quarter was a defensive battle ending in a 0-0 tie. During the second quarter the Falcons gained a 21-point lead. Scoring three touchdowns in a row, and making all three field goals. The New England Patriots kicked a field goal in the very last seconds of the second quarter, giving them hope and just enough momentum when they returned to the field after half-time.

During the third quarter, the Falcons led 28-3. But towards the end of the third quarter the New England Patriots scored a touchdown. After that, the game began to go downhill for the Falcons, as the team seemed to run out of gas. The fourth quarter was all Patriots with the game ending in a tie after 4 quarters. After winning the coin-toss, the Patriots won in sudden-death overtime, ending the game 34-28.

As Tom Brady celebrated his fifth Super Bowl win, Falcons fans mourned the loss of an almost possible historic win. For the last few days the morale in Atlanta has been boosted. Despite all the tension that has been going on in the world and in Atlanta, the possibility of a Super Bowl win brought the city together. Falcons merchandise was on every corner, Super Bowl parties were on every street, and people who weren’t even Falcons fans, and just disliked the Patriots, joined Atlanta in support of their success in making it to the Super Bowl. Despite the loss, football brought people together. The City and others all chose to “Rise Up!”

Atlanta fans, keep the dream alive, continue being kind to one another, as we may be down for now but we will Rise Up!!! And, congratulations Patriots. Well played.
